Museum
Morning
This successful program has a history of over 25 years! Museum
Morning is the name of a touring program which brings over
2,500 area 5th graders from three school districts to two
art museums in South Bend. Participants visit The South Bend
Regional Museum of Art located at Century Center for 45 minutes,
and then travel to the Snite for a second 45 minutes. Museum
Morning is an introduction to both museums, ideas about collections,
and ways of thinking about art from various cultures and time
periods. |

Docent Program
The Snite Museum of Art at the University
of Notre Dame offers training in art history and touring techniques
for members of the community every other year. Training is
a nine month once a week program, and volunteers are asked
to give approximately two tours per month. Previous experience
in teaching of any subject is helpful, enthusiasm about sharing
knowledge with museum visitors is essential. There are many
benefits of belonging to this group of art lovers.
Summer Programs
The ArtsEverywhere Fund of the Community Foundation of Saint Joseph County has awarded a $5,000 grant for the Summer 2006 High School Artist Apprenticeship Program to the Snite Museum of Art, University of Notre Dame. The innovative outreach project brings together 12 talented, motivated students selected by the art teachers at local high schools. These seniors spent four weeks, late June to late July, in a challenging apprenticeship program under two professional artist-educators.
This program was made possible with the generous support of the Friends of the Snite Museum of Art, a grant from the ArtsEverywhere Philanthropic Fund of the Community Foundation of Saint Joseph County, and donations from Mr. and Mrs. Michael P. Esposito, Jr. and Susan B. Hyland.

Robinson
Community Learning Center Outreach Programs
An exciting partnership between
the Robinson Community Learning Center and the Snite Museum
of Art was formed to bring the museum out into the neighborhood.
The
Renalda Robinson Community Learning Center is a neighborhood
center located in the near northeast neighborhood, within
walking distance of the Notre Dame campus. The University
remodeled the former Goodwill building to create the Renalda
Robinson Community Learning Center. Named in memory of a long
- time neighborhood leader, the Center opened in late February
2001 and offers a variety of free and low cost educational
and recreational programs. Many of the programs are run in
cooperation with Notre Dame departments and involve student
and employee volunteers.
Curator
of Education, Public Programs, Jackie Welsh, with several
Notre Dame student volunteers, have presented a Drawing Workshop
and other art programs for young artists who visit the Center
for after-school programs. Future plans for the partnership
include launching of a multi-visit program which will bring
youth to the Snite to learn from objects in the collection,
meet artists and observe them at work in a studio environment,
and to make art in the Ashbaugh Education Center.
