Author commentary on "Taking the Call"

Never mind telemarketing. Think of something akin to telepathy. A time you felt that someone you wanted to hear from was there on the line, almost ready to speak, but for some reason, did not. Maybe it stems from long hope for fulfillment, or desperation for answers. Probably it happens only once, an eerie metaphor for chances missed or misunderstood. Maybe it's expected rejection or the nagging sense of inadequacy. But I know several other people who have experienced such a phone call that brought those feelings into focus.
