“Determinants of Agricultural Profitability in Rural Uganda”
Abstract: The University of Notre Dame is partnering with Uganda Martyrs University with the hopes of promoting human development in Nnindye, Uganda. This paper will evaluate how well subsistence farmers in Nnindye are allocating their resources across different types of crops. Identifying possible inefficiencies in resource allocation is an essential first step in increasing economic output. Survey data collected in Nnindye by the author will serve as the primary data set in this evaluation. By analyzing the determinants of profitability and the prices of different resources, it can be determined if farmers are getting the most ‘bang for their buck,’ the most possible output for the last dollar spent on inputs.
