Josiah Blackmore
Bio
Josiah Blackmore is a professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Toronto. His current research focuses on the writings of early Portuguese and Iberian expansion in a variety of genres, including chronicles, epic poetry, and navigational texts. He is the author of Manifest Perdition (University of Minnesota Press, 2002), a book on Portuguese shipwreck narratives of the 16th and 17th centuries, editor of the 2001 edition of C. R. Boxer’s The Tragic History of the Sea (University of Minnesota Press), and author of Moorings: Portuguese Expansion and the Writing of Africa (forthcoming, 2008).
