Campus and Community
Twenty-Seven Homes
Student life at Notre Dame starts in the 27 men’s and women’s residence halls, each one providing a unique foundation for student identity and competitive spirit that introduces first year students to a world of unparalleled athletic, cultural, spiritual, and service opportunities and friendships that last a lifetime. Each dorm has its own chapel, fields a slate of interhall sports teams, and hosts an annual, campus-wide social event.

One Dome
The gilded Golden Dome and statue of Mary atop the Main Building proclaim the Notre Dame campus as a place where faith is treasured and diverse traditions shared and respected. The Dome is visible from the roads that lead to nearby Chicago and Indianapolis, from just about any point on campus, and from many of the neighborhoods of South Bend where so many students develop a lifelong commitment to community service and social justice. All Part of a Vibrant Community
The South Bend community and surrounding areas provide a vibrant home for the University, its students, faculty, and staff. Town and gown have grown up together over the past 165 years and each offers the other numerous opportunities for learning, service, entertainment, and recreation. The close relationship has been cemented with the approval of the Eddy Street Commons, where a "college town" retail-residential-office development is under construction.
